Are steemit challenges legit?

So I joined this challenge that had me resteem to enter. Wanted to try it since it was a meme challenge and I like creating images with text. ... #freeimagesbymrsray

I had 2 of the three entries and honestly thought I had it in the bag ... LOL

it was to take this and put some text on it whatever comes to your mind and create a meme.

out of the following three, which would you say is the best?

the last one won. is it the best? was this challenge legit? I'm feeling it was not in some way? Does the poster benefit from resteems and upvotes? What's the point? ... being a new minnow I am not sure why a challenge that isn't legit benefits the blog poster.

I'm not trying to toot my horn or anything, but I do think my TWO meme's were better than the winning one.

PS,on a side note the person that won this challenge also won another challenge from the same poster the day before. Strange?
