What Are the Risks of Untreated Hyperparathyroidism?

Hyperparathyroidism is a condition where one or more of the four tiny parathyroid glands in your neck produce too much parathyroid hormone (PTH). This hormone plays a crucial role in controlling the levels of calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D in your blood and bones. When too much PTH is released, your blood calcium levels rise above normal.
