STEEMCHURCH - FOURTH COMMANDMENT - Remember the Sabbath

A warm greeting Dear friends and brothers
Welcome to my blog
God bless you!

continuing with this precious study today we will talk about the fourth commandment that for people who are not in the ways of Christ is difficult to understand.

Six days you will work, and you will do all your work; but the seventh day is rest for the Lord your God; do not do any work in it.
Exodus 20: 8-10

God wanted us, after Him, to honor our parents. In the same way as honoring the name of God and sanctifying the feasts, they are an application of the first of the commandments, also the precepts that prescribe the love of neighbor establish and publish the love of God, "because he who does not love his brother Who do you see? How can you love God, whom you do not see? "(1 Jn 4:20).

The Israelites were not to do any work on the seventh and last day of the week, on Saturday. They had to reserve that day for God. That day was much more than a simple pause in their activities: it was a day consecrated to praise God, who had freed them from the bondage of Egypt

Deuteronomy 5:15
Remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD your God brought you out from there with a strong hand and an outstretched arm; Therefore Jehovah your God has commanded you to keep the Sabbath.

It was also an invitation to enter the rest of God. It was the sign of God's covenant with his people. But very soon they forgot the meaning of Saturday, of the Sabbath. When Jesus came to earth, the religious leaders had used this commandment to enslave the people. They strongly contradicted Jesus and even hated him because he did good on the Sabbath.

The New Testament books after the gospels show that the commandment to keep the Sabbath is not for Christians. The apostle Paul confirms that Christians should not keep the liturgy or holidays of the Jews, among which includes the Sabbath.

The first Christians met on Sunday, the first day of the week, to worship God (Acts 20: 7). The seventh day was the sign that the creation had been completed (Genesis 2: 2), the first day is the sign of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, who inaugurated a new creation (Mark 16: 9). Only he can give us the rest that our soul longs for.

"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28).
