It was all about making people feel small and humble inside these massive structures while letting in as much light as possible through those beautiful circular rose windows

When you look at a building like this it is easy to imagine the generations of people who walked through those doors for hundreds of years

The contrast of the dark clouds against the stone really highlights the sharp lines of the design which is why it looks so powerful in monochrome
