Democratic Socialism isn't just not tenable, it's logically impossible.

Well, if you really believe in true, direct democracy--the will of the people--majority rule, this should be celebrated, right? The vote was overwhelmingly against unionization.

But, my Democratic Socialist friends aren't going to celebrate this, are they? They're not going to celebrate this because they're more socialist than they are democrat.

No, what we're going to hear is a bunch of condescending language insisting that the Amazon employees were brainwashed and don't know what's in their own best interests. That their values were warped by the corporate machine.

No, we wise college grads with liberal arts degrees know better! Democracy is a beautiful thing until it goes against my values. Once that happens, it's time for reasonable people, by my standards, to step in and circumvent the will of the people for their own sake!

Surely enough, that's already what the union is trying to tell us all.

It's moments like this that bring me back to the conclusion that Democratic Socialism isn't a real thing that exists. Democratic republicanism isn't an oxymoron because both democracy and republicanism refer to processes and they never have to be completely at odds.

Democratic Socialism, by contrast, refers to a process with the first word and a social structure with the second. When the process leads away from the structure, the two become contradictory concepts.
