Making a good impression

10 POB Giveaway

That bird made a good impression on my window. I had just cleaned that window and the bird tried to fly straight through it. I heard a thump and then it came back to its senses but not before leaving an impression.

We don’t need to work so hard to make an impression. The internet is filled with people making impressions even if they have no point. One of my favorites is Jim Carey doing a Clint Eastwood impression.

What kind of impression are you making?

When I read your post or comment I should be able to see YOU even if the post is not about you. There is a lot of information but I want to see you. If I wanted information I could search Wikipedia or the internet archives and get it myself.

I don’t want to know what you know. I want to know you. I want to taste what you taste and feel what you feel. I want to see what you and even smell what you smell. It doesn’t matter what topic you are writing about I’m interested in your flavor in on the post.

I’m seeing a lot of set up in community posts, but I’m not getting much punchline. Why spend hours to make a pretty post and give it a nice cover picture and catchy little title and clickbait if there is no point? I’m sick of reading posts with no punchline.

When I get to the bottom of the post the first question that pops into my head is,

“Why did I just read this?”

And then,

“Oh well I’m at the bottom now, at least I should be nice enough to leave a comment.”

I'm not really interested if your post is long or informative or even written in "proper" English. I would prefer you wrote from your heart.

The important thing is to get a point across to me. Then set me up and finally pull out that twist. Sometimes leave me with a cliff hanger. That’s what keeps readers going.

I won’t finish reading and say,

“What did I just read?”

I’ll say,

“That’s dope. Give me more.”

It’s not just what you write, but it’s also how you end it.
After going through all that trouble to personalize our posts and get our point across if all we can say is “Have a good weekend!” then surely something is wrong.

Read it again to make sure you have all these elements.

  • Do you have a point?
  • Are you in the post?
  • Can I taste your flavor?

Now check again.

  • Is there a point?
  • Is there a punchline?
  • Does it have a twist at the end or a cliff hanger?

Oh that’s too many question. How about just three…

1. Has a point

2. Reveals You

3. Has a Punchline

- Please write a post containing these 3 elements.

- Copy the link of the post it in the comments below.

At the expiration of the post I will assign a number to each comment that contains all three elements.

I will use a random select generator and choose three posts to be the recipients of the 10 POB giveaway.

First picked – 5 POB

Second Picked – 3 POB

Third Picked – 2 POB

(That’s the 10 POB give away.)

Have a good Weekend!

(my hypocritical punchline)
