A Heartbeat of Time

A heartbeat of time I take to write,
somewhere drawn away, not in.
Who masters this imbroglio is irrelevant,
Unless the moniker is an answer why.
In this moment I have to spare… or simply take.
A worthy message I seek to relay.
On tippy toe, hand raised above the crush, to stay in sight.
If you see, hear me now.
I seek you promptly, just as a shadow follows.
I am hunter and hunted.
Sharing space with the shadow hunting me,
Yet intentions are split; the shadow only seeks to take.
It lives behind, but it is life I seek.
Curling claws, gnarled and greedy, may nip at me.
a darkness creeping eerily, into my light.
See me despite the shadows and the multitude in between.
Don't you know my secret?
I can't touch it; it can't touch me.
Light is safe from shadows' dark trickery.
When night falls and darkness ravels into dreams,
shadows fade as I rule the night.
Hold fast our virtues; the trip over and around will seek to test.
Answer my reach with the touch of your palm
and I promise to grow wings so the trip will fly by.
