The hummingbird can still hang in the air by the very fast wing stroke (up to 80 beats per second) and fly perpendicularly up or down.
He can also fly backwards as a single bird.
This way of flying, however, requires a lot of energy. Heart and lungs are therefore in proportion very large. At rest the heart beats around 1000 times per minute. The hummingbird has to eat all day in order to get enough energy.
During sleep at night, the body temperature drops a few degrees to save energy.
