The way to Basukinath Temple

We were traveling by auto from Vaidyanath Dham (Deoghar) to Basukinath. We stopped here for a while and captured photograph of Trikuta mountains. However we were far away from the mountains. Then we had gone towards Basukinath Temple.

The temple lies in Dumka district, Jharkhand. Basuki Nath is none other than Lord Shiva. According to the story or tradition, Shiva-linga here is self-manifested.

Like Vaidyanath Dham, Basukinath Temple area also contains several deities such as Hunuman, Kali, Kartikeya, Annapurna, Parvati, Ganesha and others including Lord Shiva.

According to Mythology, Vasuki was the name of a serpent which was used as the churning rope during Sagar Manthan. It is said that Vasuki worshipped Lord Shiva here, and hence the temple is named after him.

However, there is another story according to which a devotee named Basu found a source of water or blood there while digging the ground in search of medicinal roots.

I have seen Baidyanath Dham and Basukinath temple. Both structure look like same. It is believed that the worship of Baidyanath Dham remains incomplete if one doesn't visit Basukinath and worship him.

Devotees take a bath here and then go to the temple to worship.
