In this video, I use the equation for Kepler's third law to calculate the required altitude above Earth's equator of a satellite to have the same period as Earth's 24-hour rotation, and which is called a geosynchronous satellite. The resulting altitude is approximately 35,900 km, and the satellite coincides with Earth's rotation so that it always appears above the same or very nearby position on Earth. The concept for this type of satellite was popularized by Arthur C. Clarke in a 1945 novel, while the first such satellite was launched in 1963 and is sometimes called the Clarke Orbit.

I also do a mini-deep dive on Clarke's very interesting connections to 9/11, ball lightning, cold fusion, and finish off by reading his own three laws.
