Bodie, CA - Ghost Town [EN/PT-BR]

I heard about this place a long time ago, but never made it there. Not until yesterday. The story about the place always sounded interesting, and all I knew was that it was a ghost town that thrived during the California gold rush. Now I got to know a little bit more about the history of this place. It was just a small mining town, until gold was found there around 1870. The town thrived only for a few years when other more promising gold prospecting places attracted most workers away and then it was just a small town again. When mining was not profitable anymore, it just became a ghost town.

Today Bodie is a state park, Bodie State Historic Park, and a National Historic Landmark.

It was fun to check it out, and I loved some of the pictures I took. The desert and the blue skies are beautiful. But it was a very windy day, so windy that it was hard to stand outside. The wind was cold and there was too much dust in the air. I wish the conditions were better as I would have spent a lot more time there. There were a lot of interesting things to see and I wasn't able to see everything. You always try to imagine what it would be like to live there during that time.

The town is just a little north of Mono Lake, near Bridgeport and Lee Vining. If you are in the area looking for a different activity, this is an interesting spot to see.

Ouvi falar desse lugar há muito tempo, mas nunca fui até lá. Não até ontem. A história do lugar sempre pareceu interessante, mas tudo o que eu sabia é que era uma cidade fantasma que prosperou durante a corrida do ouro na Califórnia. Agora, fiquei sabendo um pouco mais sobre a história desse lugar. Era apenas uma pequena cidade mineradora, até que ouro foi encontrado lá por volta de 1870. A cidade prosperou apenas por alguns anos, quando outros locais de prospecção de ouro mais promissores atraíram a maioria dos trabalhadores e, então, voltou a ser apenas uma pequena cidade. Quando a mineração deixou de ser lucrativa, ela se tornou uma cidade fantasma.

Hoje Bodie é um parque estadual, o Bodie State Historic Park, e um marco histórico nacional.

Foi divertido dar uma olhada nesse lugar e adorei algumas das fotos que tirei. O deserto e o céu azul são lindos. Mas estava um dia com muito vento, tanto vento que era difícil ficar do lado de fora. O vento estava frio e havia muita poeira no ar. Eu gostaria que as condições fossem melhores, pois eu teria passado muito mais tempo lá. Havia muitas coisas interessantes para ver e eu não consegui ver tudo. Você sempre tenta imaginar como seria viver lá naquela época.

A cidade fica um pouco ao norte do Mono Lake, perto de Bridgeport e Lee Vining. Se você estiver na região em busca de uma atividade diferente, esse é um local interessante para conhecer.
