Perfumizers

Here are a few of the Perfumizers on display at the Perfume Passage museum in Barrington, Illinois.

The first perfume atomiser was invented by Dr Allen DeVilbiss and produced commercially in 1887. The device was originally used in the medical field to spray medicine into patients' throats.

Thomas DeVilbiss – the son of Allen DeVilbiss, adapted his fathers technology to create the first commercial perfume atomizers. The DeVilbiss Manufacturing Company produced them in the early 20th century. These devices featured decorative glass bottles with metal nozzles operated by a squeeze bulb, offering more controlled fragrance application.

"When attached to a perfume bottle an atomizer is a device that facilitates the dispersion of a liquid by the formation of a spray. Atomizers mix oxygen and liquid perfume seamlessly to create a fine mist, enabling you to release a small amount of perfume."

Perfume Lamps

The text in the image reads: DEVILBISS made perfume lamps, which could be used with or without fragrance for a "truly delightful mode of escape from things mundane, into a magic garden of dreams."
