Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I made corned beef and cabbage in preparation for St. Patrick's Day which is observed on March 17th. In the US it is a celebration of Irish heritage and culture,. There are parades, people wear green, and Irish music, food and drink certainly play a part.
The stores are stocked with items for decorations and craft projects!
My Irish ancestry is rather removed, but I did have an Irish great-great grandmother who immigrated to the US in the last half of the 1800s. It's enough for me to remember to wear green and celebrate the day.
St. Patrick's Day was celebrated in the American colonies in Boston in 1737, and New York City in 1762 when the first parade was held.
In Chicago, the Chicago River is dyed green each year to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and many other cities where Irish immigrants settled host festivities. You don't have to be Irish to celebrate!
