No Hoarding At Pharamacies
I went to the local pharmacy to buy Vitamin D supplement.
This is how the vitamin shelf looked like:
I got this. It should be easy to get kids to eat it because it is cola flavoured.
It contains 200 20 microgram Vitamin D tablets. The purchase had nothing particularly to do with the ongoing corona virus epidemic. Finland is between the 60th and the 70th northern latitudes. As far as I know, in addition to ours, British health authorities recommend Vitamin D supplements. There is strong evidence based on very large studies that low Vitamin D is common particularly during winter time and that Vitamin D supplements decrease the likelihood of respiratory infections - the more the greater the deficiency. Too little Vitamin D is linked with osteoporosis, too. I've seen claims that increased risk of type 1 diabetes is linked with insufficient Vitamin D but I haven't looked into that.
