Happy belated 4th! - My Actifit Report Card: July 4 2026

Hey Actifitters,

For July 4th, we didn't have any special plans lined up, so as often on weekends, our activities started late with a walk to the small forest.

With all the storms the day before and overnight, the temperature was a little lower but still extremely humid, so not very comfortable to walk in the forest, but of course Kaia wouldn't take no for an answer.

Lots of downed trees even in this small forest. I wonder how it was in our bigger forest, I'll try and go check it out sometimes this week.

But in the afternoon, we had a beautiful blue sky.

Because of the heat and Kaia's injury, we avoid long walks, so a second shorter walk late afternoon was a good idea. It wasn't even fully dark yet, but it was already noisy with small fireworks. First time I see Kaia staying so close to me, without me asking her to of course. She wasn't scared but worried. More on that later.

Still signs of the many storms we had the past couple of days.

And of course, at night, the real fireworks started! Usually, just like her brother Genepi before her, Kaia is not too bothered by fireworks and in general loud noises. But July 4th is the exception because it is pretty much everywhere, in all the yards, and very loud everywhere. I remember a few years back, walking in the neighborhood with both dogs while it sounded like we were at war or something, they were very worried, but stayed by my side. That was exactly the same this time, with Kaia heeling like she rarely does. Just from the front yard, we had a great spot to watch one of the biggest fireworks in the neighborhood. It almost looked professional!

What about Le Chat in all that noise? Well, I'm not exactly sure, but i think she stayed hidden under the deck in the backyard. We didn't see her at all during the day. Only much later after the noise reduced a bit, she finally showed up, clearly hungry, and wanting to relax for a bit.

And that was it, we haven't been very efficient so far during this long week end, but the heat and tiredness just were a bit too much. It will be better when it gets just a little bit cooler.
