It is surely not the bird nor its oil-rich silky soft covering which poses any direct threat; rather the historical use of a quill as a delicately fashioned writing instrument. Words are incredibly powerful and have the potential to cause significant harm upon arriving at a receptive set of ears. Until such time as a clever instrument be used to record one or more thoughts, the unwritten words curiously hold ‘potential energy’ - reminiscent of unbaked clay. Like any other worked masterpiece, once delivered, it has the potential to ignite the recipients passion.

It is imperative to make known, that words in itself are not the least bit perilous; rather the authors or recipients of such - those with ill intent in their hearts. It is these individuals who may use literary content as a hostile energy store and subsequent release. Conversely, it should bring tremendous comfort in knowing that those with good intent, too have a unique opportunity to make use of language in a most powerful manner, both for good and in diffusing perilous situations. Though words can indeed etch deep scars, understanding their power ensures that the wounds be less than claw deep.. so that like with the goose, nothing more than our ego may be bruised.
