Bipolarity - Original Ink Artwork

Lately I have been spending more time drawing than painting. Exploring a new medium it's always exciting. The drawing above was realized with ink pens on 8.5 x 11" Canson paper.

To be honest, I had so much fun doodling and drawing with ink, that I barely touched my acrylics. Since I don't have a studio anymore and each painting session requires a set up and a clean up of the area designated for this activity, most of the times I chose drawing. Less of a mess to clean in the end. All I needed was my paper and ink pens.

Since my aching bones are not a fan of winter and the cold, and my joints feel more stiff than usual (courtesy of Lyme) , choosing a more accommodating option enabled me to continue to do something creative each day. I really enjoy the process. Seeing the increasing number of characters in my ink series, made me realize that might have to update my artist statement, and include a line or two about this series.

What I love the most about "Bipolarity", is that you can look at it from two different angles and discover two different characters. If you turn the image upside down, you will find a new drawing. Check it out and let me know which way would you have it hung on your wall?

If you landed before on my blog, you may know that most of my posts are either Lyme-related, art or poetry related, or a mix of everything. Raising awareness about Lyme disease has been part of my life for quite some time and I put a lot of efforts into it in the past five years. I try to use as many mediums as I can go reach a wider audience.

As not everyone knows what it entails to be a Lymie and to what extent this illness impacts one's life, I feel it's important to de-stigmatize Lyme, to illustrate its invisible symptoms and engage people in a dialogue that could hopefully create a shift in their beliefs.

The late stages include neurologic symptoms like chronic pain and cognitive dysfunction. Patients who suffer from chronic Lyme experience a multitude of symptoms, among which: burning under the skin, fatigue, muscle aches and brain fog.

"Bipolarity" emphasizes the cognitive decline, the irritability and the mood swings being only of the "blessings" of Lyme. To read more about Lyme disease, you can visit a-zlyme.com, a website I created a few years back, hoping it would help raise awareness about Lyme.
