Fishing for species
Lately I have been actively trying to target certain species.
Amongst the fish that I am trying to catch is a prodigal son and the green and rusty job fish. These are reef dwellers but are classified as game fish.
For the prodigal son I either use squid bait or a yellow and white paddle tail. Majority of the time using bait means I'll go on with a shark instead of a fish, thats why I have switched from bonito as bait to the squid. Prodigals swim around bigger fish like sharks to scoop up any little pieces of the larger fish's catch. They also like squid and crustaceans.
I have only caught one prodigal son and I'm told that it's not something too many fishermen can add to their list of species. I have been trying to target them for a while now but not with any more success.
I was lucky enough to catch my first swallow tail rockod on the paddle tail. These Majestic fish are a bright orange with purple and blueish speckles all over. The yellow edges on this fish are very destinct and I would say makes the swallow tail one of the most beautiful fish I have ever seen.
Swallow tails are found on reefs but are known to chase a lure like a game fish right off of the reef. They are often caught by people fishing off a jetski as they drift over a reef.
The adults look pretty different from the juveniles who are not as flamboyant as the adults.
We live in a protected marine reserve and are not allowed to keep these fish. So it's quick with the camera to get the photo and then release it back into the ocean.
We are blessed to live in such a beautiful place where our passions and dreams collide with the ocean that ties it all together. We get to see and experience things on a daily basis that most people will never get to see in their lifetime.
Magical Mozambique!
