Marlin XT-22 Cleaning

This rifle is a Marlin XT-22. This Particular model is barreled in a 22 and can fire every version of the 22 round from subsonic to wmr. The Marlin XT is used to hunt small game animals and for vermin extermination. I use my own 22- wmr to hunt everything from squirrels to deer. The larger the animal the better shot placement needs to happen in order to make a clean kill. The actual rifle I’m cleaning in this video has been used to rabbits and squirrels. This rifle was part of a line of rimfire bolt- action rifles that Marlin put in production during the 2000s. These covered all manner of 17 and 22 rifle cartridges. This is a very good starting rifle for youth and for people who are not used to the kick and loud bang of a gun. Coming with a 4 and 7 round magazine you can always put “one in the chamber” to make your amount of rounds able to be held at one time to a technical 5 and 8 round capacity rifle. There are semi-automatic options for the 17 and 22 round line of rifles, but I like the bolt action in my hunting rifles. If this is a “home defense” or “in case uncle sam turns” gun then by all means get the semi or even full auto if needed.

After you make sure that your rifle is unloaded let’s start the disassembly, Hooray!

Make sure the safety is off. On this model you cannot remove the bolt with the safety on.

Open the ejector port and slide the bolt completely back. When the bolt comes to the end pull the trigger to remove the bolt for the gun completely.

Remove the proper screws from the underside of the rifle holding the metal and wooden parts from each other. Look over the wooden piece to check for any burning, carbon, or mold on the surface.

Remove with cloth if carbon or mold with some gun oil. With burning issues check your action to make sure there’s no cracks and all the parts line up correctly. It could also be that the gas is escaping through incorrect paths through your rifle.

Use a cleaning patch with some gun oil to wipe down carbon, dirt, or any corrosion that you see on your gun. Use a ramrod with a cleaning patch on the end to push through the barrel.

If you cannot push the patch through bc the barrel is too narrow you can cut up your cleaning patches into smaller pieces. Soak them in oil and push the entire cut up patches through the barrel in order to clean it out. Follow same steps with clean patches as well.
