Super Blackhawk Info and Cleaning

Cowboy Gun!! What we have here is a Super Blackhawk revolver. I don’t know what makes it super, but I do know that it is. So this is a cowboy gun you would see in the wild west movies. It has a long barrel it fires large rounds and has a single action hammer.

The single action hammer means that it must be pulled back everytime you want to fire it. It’s a larger revolver with more weight on it. The longer barrel and pushed back handle gives it a more stable and balanced shot adding more accuracy to it. Today it would not be the ideal gun for a fight, but a hundred years ago you would’ve been the baddest one out there. It has a similar build as the peacemaker, which was the choice gun of Wyatt Earp and Billy The Kid, with a few modern adjustments to it. The Blackhawk comes in a few different makes and models firing a few different rounds. One of the differences with this revolver and others is this one only comes in models that fire larger sidearm rounds. This particular model fires 357 rounds.

With few moving parts this will be a much simpler and easy clean compared to just about all the other guns that I’ve posted and will post.

Unload your gun!!!

This revolver does not have a cylinder that comes out to reload. Instead it has a small post covered with a small “trap door” on the right side right below the hammer.

In order to remove the cylinder you’re going to have to unscrew the center rod holding the cylinder in place. This will be the small metal rod right under the barrel. Once the rod is open you should be able to pop the cylinder out.

Use a cleaning patch at the end of a ramrod and push it through the barrel and each housing tube in your cylinder. This gun was pretty much already clean when I started on it so I didn’t need to go extensively through the details.

Take a patch with oil on it and go over all metal and moving parts making sure there’s no dirt, carbon, or corrosion on your gun.

When this is all done Give the whole thing a nice shine over re reapply oil where needs be. Reassemble and get ready to defend your claim out west against cattle rustlers, bank robbers, or any other outlaw you may run into. Or you can start a life as an outlaw, it’s the wild west go crazy!
