Close to the beyond
When I was a teenager, I remained totally unwilling to believe in what many consider superstitions. If something happened that someone said was going to happen, I simply considered it as a mere coincidence.
Today I recognize that there are things that science and logic cannot and will not be able to explain: miracles, deja vu, premonitions, to mention a few. This idea of believing in supernatural or inexplicable things began in me when I was once at my mother's house, which has a large plot of land in a rural area called Sabana de La Plata, so it honored its name. Where there was a diversity of animals, especially reptiles and amphibians that have been diminishing due to the construction of houses.
At that time, I was waiting for my first university degree, so I was neither working nor studying. To earn an income I was transcribing and printing school work, doing research and writing reports. That night, as is my habit, I love to write drafts by hand but in silence, that's why I moved to the backyard of the house; inspired by what I was doing, I didn't notice the time. My brothers were watching TV and my mother was sleeping; she suddenly got up and asked them: -where is Liseth? they told her where I was, I even heard her but I continued with my work. When my mom got to where I was she shouted at me: girl #*$$! get out of there! and pulled me by the arm; my leaves fell and I didn't understand anything. When she shouted again: -A snake!" I turned all colors, I didn't even get to see it. My mother killed it with the closest thing she had: a masonry shovel. After the scare I was able to see it, it was a coral snake. It is said to be one of the most venomous snakes in Venezuela; however, it is tame but we were not there to test if it was tame or not.
I felt I was very close to death because if it had come to my feet and I had shaken it or stepped on it, I would not be here to tell this story. The antiophidic serum is hard to get, many times it is not found in the nearest health centers.
The strangest thing is that my mother told me that she woke up because she heard clearly that they called her saying: -mom.
From then on I started to believe in her dreams, presentiments or mother's sixth sense, whatever you want to call it.
