We have built a home on Liotes
About 8 months ago, we recieved the first report from the surface of Liotes by Tania Lemaire. We have recieved now another message from her:
Hello this is Tania Lemaire, I'm the team leader here in Leonopolis. In the 8 months since we landed on the surface of the planet, we have been working diligently.
Our team is composed by 10 people and for the first months we lived in the Jumper which is the vessel that allowed us to travel from the Ark 62 to the surface.
Phase 1: Landing and connecting
We have been prepared for this mission for a long time on the Ark 62 and several phases were defined that allowed us to structure our work. We built a connection road in tarkovium to connect the Jumper with the 9 domes that had been built by the 3D printers prior to our arrival. We then used our tractor that we carried on the Jumper to move the first batch of equipment. The tractor is a powerful but slow machine. It's perfect to transport our stuff.

Phase 2: Sealing the domes
The 9 domes were built before we arrived on the planet thanks to the 3 D printer and the material Tarkovium. However they were only empty spheres linked by tunnels. Our first task in this phase was to have a place to work. We brought the necessary material into the Workshop Dome. There we built two 3 D printer stations. We couldn't carry much with the Jumper so whatever possible needs to be produced on the ground. The first things we printed, were doors and plenty of small pieces that we would need later.
Another team was measuring all the domes to detect potential weaknesses in the construction and with the help of scanning, they produced the necessary pieces to reinforce the construction. The great thing about Tarkovium is that you can actually melt it without losing it's capacities. It's not much different from glass. So when the walls are not thick enough, we create layers of Tarkovium and then warm them to stick them on the existing walls. We then need to warm the whole thing again to make shure its sealed. For the moment, we do all the corrections from the inside because on the outside there is simply to much sand and wind.
During this whole process, we modified some Liotes Mills that are now providing us with power for our work.
Phase 3: Building the infrastructure
This is what takes the most time because we first need to create the spare parts to actually build the infrastructure. We started with the workshop and all we needed there. For a long time, it was all about building the parts and then slowly we started to assemble one thing, then another. The whole time, this work was done with our space suits on. This strongly limited our liberty of movement.
We started to build the bigger systems like water, air and recycling. It took us several months to actually build these systems and still they are not completely finished.
Phase 4: Building our residence
After so long living in the Jumper, we were looking forward to this phase which went in parallel with the second part of phase 3. The residence is the central dome where we will actually live from now on! Finally after more than 11 months on the planet, we have a real home here.
Unfortunately, our work so far didn't go all according plan. One of our team members got ill and had to be isolated since we didn't know if what he had was contagious. During his isolation in a room in the jumper, he was always in contact with the crew on the Ark. They monitored his situation and informed us when one of us had to take care of him. Fortunately, things turned for the better and he has recovered now. However, with 10% of the team out of order for several weeks, we took some delay.
That is one of the reasons why we aren't were we would like to be. Hopefully, I will be able to deliver a new report soon!
