If we ignore usual Fujifilm’s corporative propaganda seen at the official presentation in Prague…
…how can we describe this one? Like a hybrid without a hybrid? Hey @lighteye, what are you talking about?
Well, we can say this is a hybrid, or a crossover, between the ultra-popular X100VI compact and medium format GFX 50R – without the beautiful hybrid viewfinder, interchangeable lenses and image stabilization… but with a few twists with the resolution and aspect ratio thanks to that excellent sensor of 102 Mpix. For example: With an effective digital crop (located on the rocker below the shutter button), and thanks to that big medium format sensor, you actually have four cameras in one – you have very high resolution medium format camera with the wide angle lens, full frame camera with a moderate wide, APSc with a normal angle lens and MFT with a short (portrait) telephoto and 20 Mpix. Here is how it looks in the viewfinder:
Now, people will whine about the slow f4 lens and no stabilization system. But with these two features, and with an exceptional battery life of over 800 shots, GFX100RF actually becomes an ultimate street shooting machine, full $1400 cheaper than Leica Q3! Yes, you can almost buy Fujifilm’s GFX100RF and X100VI for the price of Leica!
Yes, it has a slightly boxy, albeit very stylish body, and you can’t change lenses… But you can synchronize flash up to 1/4000 sec with the incorporated 4 stops ND filter! Personally, I would like to have one just for that feature. I will never have it, but still, it is nice to know such camera exists. For other pros and cons you can ask Hugh Brownstone, an owner of Leica:
And, of course, Chris and Jordan with the first impressions, since Chris is in love with Leica Q3:
Have a few more product photos of this camera. See first that beautiful top with all key controls just as God said they should be:
Yes, it’s expensive. Yes, it’s beautiful. And having in mind Fujifilm’s design schizophrenia syndrome, I suspect they will make a big mess with their next camera from X-E line.
Anyway… Till then, let’s enjoy this moment, and hope for another big Bitcoin jump! 🤣
