WeChat is a free messaging, social media, and mobile payment application which was developed and released by Tencent in 2011.
Its features include the following:

- Broadcast (one-to-many) messaging

- Video calls and conferencing
- QR Codes
- Picture messaging
- WeChat search engine
- Hongbaos or red envelopes
- WeChat Moments and News Feed
- Photos, videos and real-time location sharing
- Group chats that support voice and video calls, photos, videos, and social media capabilities
Due to its vast range of functions and features, it has been referred to as China's "app for everything" and a super-app. In 2018, it surpassed 1 billion monthly active users and became the largest standalone mobile app in the world.
It is available for iOS, Android, Windows and MacOS.
