Hey everyone! Guess what I saw on a rainy walk the other day? A whole bunch of golden birdwing butterflies! Normally they're pretty shy, but these guys were just chilling out in the rain, feasting on flowers. I got some amazing close-up videos of their vibrant wings with yellow, black, and white patterns—they're incredible! These beautiful butterflies are called Triodes rhadamantus, by the way. The golden birdwing features black forewings, golden yellow hindwings with black veins, and red markings on its head and thorax. Males and females differ in that the female has a row of black triangle spots on its hindwing, while males lack sub-marginal markings. The species is endemic to the Philippines, and this subspecies occurs throughout the country except in Palawan and the Calamian Islands. Lives in primary and old secondary forests, woodlands, and agricultural areas. Nature is pretty cool, right?
