Ohps!! Wrong Way!! Come back soon!!

The image talks by itself, it looks like the pilot was inattentive for some reason, maybe focused on a game in his phone, or was reading the flight map on the reverse, and suddenly a member of the crew gave him a slap on the neck screaming: " WTF are you doing man? We are going in the opposite direction!" So he jumped on the chair and exclaimed: "Ohps!! Wrong Way!! Come back soon!!" with his robotic voice, because people like him are not so different from scheduled robot.
Unfortunately this is only an immagination story, and he probably had precise orders in doing that. So I wonder which civil aircraft normally do a route like this? How is possible that the majority of the people don't notice things like that? And apart from the shape of this trail, how is possible that the huge number of trails is justified as NORMAL air traffic that is increased in the last years? And why in certain days there is no trail, at all? Maybe they have all the day-off?
Is there anyone that is able to answer to some of these question?
