WORTH STOPPING FOR
Today I’m taking you back to the Low Beskids once again, this time to a small village called Zdynia. There is another church here dedicated to the PROTECTION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD. I had the chance to see this church on the last day of my stay in Gładyszów, just before heading back home. It is located right next to the main road, so it is hard to miss.
Dzisiaj zabieram Was ponownie do Beskidu Niskiego, a dokładniej do małej miejscowości o nazwie Zdynia. Mieści się tutaj kolejna cerkiew pod wezwaniem OPIEKI MATKI BOŻEJ. Cerkiew tę miałam okazję zobaczyć już ostatniego dnia mojego pobytu w Gładyszowie, tuż przed drogą powrotną. Znajduje się ona przy głównej drodze, dlatego trudno jej nie zauważyć.
Like most churches in this region, it was built from wood. However, this was not only an aesthetic choice — wood was simply the most accessible material in the mountains, and such buildings could be constructed more quickly and repaired more easily.
Jak większość cerkwi położonych w tym regionie, została zbudowana z drewna. Nie był to jednak wyłącznie wybór estetyczny — drewno było w górach najłatwiej dostępnym materiałem, a takie budowle można było szybciej wznosić i łatwiej naprawiać.
In the photos, you can also see the bell tower standing separately, and this is not a coincidence, as in church architecture it was often built apart from the main structure. This was mainly to protect the church from fire, but it also had a symbolic meaning — it separated the sacred space from the outside world.
Na zdjęciach widać również dzwonnicę stojącą osobno i nie jest to przypadek, ponieważ w architekturze cerkiewnej często budowano ją oddzielnie od świątyni. Miało to przede wszystkim chronić przed pożarem, ale miało też znaczenie symboliczne — oddzielało sacrum od przestrzeni zewnętrznej.
Like most churches at this time of year, the building was unfortunately closed, so I could only admire it from the outside. It is not as monumental as the church in Kwiatoń, which has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is rather more modest, calm, and blends into the surrounding landscape. Everything here feels natural and unforced.
Jak większość cerkwi o tej porze roku, świątynia była niestety zamknięta, więc mogłam ją podziwiać jedynie z zewnątrz. Nie jest ona tak monumentalna jak cerkiew w Kwiatoniu, która została wpisana na Listę Światowego Dziedzictwa UNESCO. Jest raczej bardziej skromna, spokojna i wtapia się w krajobraz. Wszystko wygląda tutaj naturalnie i niewymuszenie.
