Cheeky Sandpiper

Walking along the rocky shore of the arctic ocean I wasn't seeing many birds. There's not much along this side of the island. But this little guy came by and started to walk along the bank with me. Eventually he got ahead and started to run down to the shore of the ocean to peck around for some insects to eat.

I really love the patterns and colors on the back of the Sandpipers. The blacks, browns, and golds on their backs are very pretty. This is a Semipalmated Sandpiper. You can tell by the coloring of the bird and its slightly curved beak. It is distinguishable from Baird's Sandpiper by the eye. The Baird's have a round eye, while the Semipalmated have a "pinched" corner that give them a sad or longing look.
