Cosmic Dancers

I was playing around with the filters on Gimp and came across this "cosmic recursive fractal flames" render that allows you to make many many different types of fractals to mess with. Some of them can indeed be very cosmic. Like this example. Which is two identical "flames" of different colors overlapping each other with one stretched to be slightly larger. I love how the orange and blue swirled out together in the right portion of the photo. It makes me think of two galaxies that have begun to orbit each other.

It is possible to add to the flame fractals by setting multiple layers. You can even manipulate it further with other distortion effects. I added a Kaleidoscope effect to this fractal to see what it would look like. It turned out okay. I don't think it was the best fractal to be.... kaleidescoped. For lack of a better term.

The flame fractals are a lot of fun to play with. I am not sure how versatile they will prove to be in my artwork, but for the moment, they are proving to be a lot of fun to learn how to manipulate my pieces and to learn the tools at my disposal.

This piece is an extreme zoom on a Mandelbrot fractal with not very many iterations. It was then put into the kaleidoscope filter. I like how it gives a tie-dye effect.

Adding onto the iterations of a Mandelbrot fractal and adding a "cartoon" filter can add really awesome effect of depth to the fractals! I was very interested in how the cartoon effect added an extreme amount of depth to the piece, giving it a 3D effect! I may look into using this further to enhance other types of artwork I produce.
