Why I'm Called - Hale-Bopp Comet
I am Hale-Bopp Comet.
I am one of the brightest comets of the 20th century.
My name was given in 1995.
I was named by Alan Hale and Thomas Bopp.
My name came about named after my co-discoverers, Alan Hale and Thomas Bopp, who independently found me.
My name combines the surnames of the discoverers.
An interesting fact is Hale-Bopp was one of the brightest and most widely observed comets of the 20th century, visible to the naked eye for a record 18 months.
