Why I'm Called - Eris
I am Eris.
I am a dwarf planet in the scattered disc.
My name was given in 2006.
I was named by IAU (after discovery by Mike Brown, Chad Trujillo, and David Rabinowitz in 2005; initially nicknamed "Xena").
My name came about for the controversy it caused (larger than Pluto, prompting redefinitions); "Xena" was a temporary pop culture reference.
My name means Greek goddess of strife and discord.
An interesting fact is its discovery directly led to Pluto's demotion from planet status, embodying the "discord" in its name; Eris is the most massive known dwarf planet.
