Our Planets Found: Uranus

When found:
March 13, 1781.

By who:
William Herschel.

Description:
Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun, an ice giant with a unique sideways rotation, faint rings, and 28 known moons, appearing blue-green due to methane in its atmosphere.

Distance from Earth:
Closest distance: approximately 1.6 billion miles.

Length of Year & Day:
Year: 30,589 Earth days (about 84 years).
Day: 17.2 hours.

Interesting fact:
Uranus rotates on its side, likely due to a massive collision, making its seasons extreme, with each pole getting 42 years of continuous sunlight or darkness.

Like its Finder:
Like William Herschel, who was a talented musician composing symphonies, Uranus spins on its side as if dancing to an unconventional tune, with rings that resemble musical notes.
