Homemade Emergency Batteries, By Ken Killeen of Terran Sky

Using common things in the kitchen or home....
I was able to construct a simple 6 cell battery from nothing but foil, paper and some pencils. I used Epsom salts as a salt bridge (MgSO4), and later converted them to alkaline cells in an attempt to derive greater amperage. An alkaline solution was prepared by soaking ash from my fireplace in tap water. The filtered yellow fluid remaining had a pH around 8-9 while tinkering with concentrations. This suited quite nicely and was drizzled over the cells until saturated. Each cell was sealed with a balloon and some hot glue , before connecting in series to give me a 2.8V battery
I connected it to a temperature probe which seems to power up fine. After about 6 or7 hours the cells began to drain. Unplugging the cells allows them to regenerate, quite rapidly, back to their peak voltage. Since each cell has (1.5mx 0.02m)2 surface area, and I have 6 cells, with around 9mx0.02m surface area! This ensures I will likely never need to replace the cells as they have so much metal available for oxidation!
More pix to come, as well as a short build video explaining the process.
Don't be afraid of science .
EVERYTHING is simpler than you may think.
So together, let's make Science our bitch....
For a better world for all :)
