The carnation is a herbaceous plant belonging to the Caryophyllaceae family; considered a "water flower," it is widespread throughout the Mediterranean regions.
It grows wild in the flora of the Iberian Peninsula. In its typical form, it is a tufted plant with numerous stems reaching up to 1 meter in height.
Carnations primarily symbolize love, fascination, and affection. Their scientific name, Dianthus, derives from the Greek phrase "flower of the gods." However, their meaning varies drastically depending on the color:

El clavel o clavelina​ es una planta herbácea perteneciente a la familia de las Caryophyllaceae, es considerada como flor del agua, difundida en las regiones mediterráneas.​ Es espontánea en la flora de la península ibérica. En su forma típica es una planta cespitosa, ​ con numerosos vástagos de hasta 1 m de altura.
Los claveles simbolizan principalmente el amor, la fascinación y el afecto. Su nombre científico, Dianthus, proviene del griego "flor de los dioses".
Sin embargo, su significado varía drásticamente dependiendo del color:
