A Beautiful Sunset Mid Highway

Today being a weekend, I decided to wander through the market area, just casually walking without any fixed plan. The roads were busy as always — vehicles rushing past, horns echoing, people walking fast as if every second mattered. Amid this usual chaos of city life, something unexpected caught my attention.

The sky.

As I stood near the highway, I witnessed one of the most beautiful sunsets I have seen in a long time. The golden-orange hues were spreading across the sky, blending softly with shades of blue and grey clouds. The sun was slowly descending behind the distant buildings, and for a few minutes, everything seemed calmer. The vehicles were still moving, people were still in a hurry, but the sky had its own peaceful rhythm.

Living in a posh city surrounded by concrete structures, tall buildings, and endless traffic, it is rare to witness sunsets framed by mountains, open green lands, or clusters of trees. Even witnessing such a glowing sunset in between highways and electric poles feels special here. In cities where everything moves at high speed, moments of stillness are rare.

No one around seemed to notice it.

People were busy chasing their destinations, their deadlines, their material goals. In such fast-moving environments, appreciation often gets lost. We forget to pause. We forget to look up. We forget that beauty exists beyond screens, targets, and achievements.

I have always loved nature and its quiet magnificence. The way the sky changes its colors without making any sound, the way trees stand patiently through every season, the way sunlight filters through leaves in precise patterns — it always amazes me. Nature is structured yet unpredictable, delicate yet powerful. There is something deeply peaceful about simply staring at it, just like a newborn stares at the world with curiosity, trying to understand its existence.

In rushing cities, hardly anyone takes time to notice these details. Even when beauty surrounds us, we often walk past it without acknowledgment. Sometimes I wonder — will there come a day when we will no longer find a place to gaze at open skies? When every empty land will be replaced by another building, another complex, another parking space?

There was a time when trees outnumbered humans significantly. It felt like there were countless trees per person, providing shade, oxygen, and balance. Today, the ratio has reversed drastically. For every human, the number of trees seems to be shrinking year by year. And if development continues without responsibility, perhaps there may come a day when even having one tree per person feels like a luxury.

Our planet is special not because of buildings, technology, or highways. It is special because it supports life through ecosystems carefully balanced by trees, soil, water, and air. Trees are not obstacles to development. They are not alternatives that can be replaced by cement and steel. They are living systems that make development possible in the first place.

Wood is often called a valuable resource, but a tree is far more valuable standing alive than cut down and shaped into something temporary. It purifies the air, shelters species, balances temperature, and silently sustains life.

That sunset reminded me of something simple — no matter how advanced our cities become, we still depend on nature for our existence. Progress should not mean erasing green spaces. Success should not mean sacrificing the sky.

As the sun disappeared and the sky slowly darkened, traffic continued as usual. But for a few minutes, I felt grateful. Grateful that despite the noise, the rush, and the buildings, nature still finds ways to surprise us.

We just need to slow down enough to see it.
