Chasing Ghosts & Ancestors
Hi I wrote my first post yeasterday after nearly a year, I didn't have any plans to sart writitng again wssn't sure if I wanted to start again but after opening the site and scrolling over a few pages I realised how much I had misswd that interaction. I have enjoyed the break, it gave me a lot more time to myself but never once did I think to close my account. I had my 61st birthday recently, againg has hit me more this year than it has done on any other occasion, I m actualy doing sonething I never thought I would do and that tracing family.
A LITTLE BACK STORY
I didn't have the best family, my parent's had there problems that they took out on the younger chidren especially me, Me and my younger brother and sister weren't wanted, we were as they said Newcastle Brown Ale misakes, I was the gobby one out of the 3 that's probbly why I got the worst treatment. When I think back to my childhood I don't remember much that happenend just before I turned 14 somethings I will never forget. So me looking into my ancestors is something I wasn't to bothered about until I hit 61.
My hubby and daughter asked me what I would like for my birthday, tthey asked me every year and every year they got the same Nothing then this year I decided I wanted a DNA test, mostly hoping to find out that I was adopted, I knew I wasn't but would have loved that result.
The test arrived on my birthday, it takes up to 6 weeks forthe results to be sent back to you, I returned the test on my birthday recieveong the results within 4 weeks, Sadly I wasn't adopted. I was super suprised to find out thatI was 46% Scottish 43% North East England & 11% German.
I am still finding my way around Ancestry, there is so much to learn such as how to add someone to your own tree, Ive aalready added the same person married to each other, Ive had to delete tham all and start again. I have also been given a possible 28k relations, I am already on to 4 generation with there beong so many more, you never know I could be related to someone famous but knowing what family I have it could be something much worse.
I am spending a couple of hours each day doing searches and finding more possible Great Great Great Grandparents, I wish I had started his earlier when my brain was younger, what makes it really hard is having no family to check what I have found as I don't speak to my family and haven't done for over 20 years. I am having to make notes and remember things that I had no clue on. I don't remember much about my grandparents as they died when I was young. Luckly I found birth dates on there gravestones, maiden names and locations of birth are difficult.
Have you traced your family, have you any tips that may help me.
Thank you for visiting.
