Escuela Catolica 1940

The Escuela Catolica was built in 1940 by the spanish clergy in Boljoon, Cebu.

This building is served as the meeting place of various religious group of the parish.

When the Americans began constructing schools in the Philippines in the years leading to the outbreak of World War II, Spaniards also decided to put up their own.

One of these schools, the Escuela Catolica, was built in 1940 in Boljoon.

An entry about this structure in the Boljoon: Cebu Heritage Frontier book said it served as a dorm for children receiving instructions on taking their first communion. It was a place for religious teachings and had, at one time, served as a school, the book added.

Unlike Spanish colonial houses, which are a combination of stone and wood, Escuela Catolica uses wood for both the ground and second floor levels. It follows a rectangular plan and its facade is symmetrical, highlighted by an exterior double grand staircase that leads up to the second floor landing.
