Tempus fugit is a Latin phrase that translates to "time flies" or, more literally, "time flees". Originating from Virgil’s Georgics as "fugit irreparabile tempus" (it escapes, irretrievable time), it acts as a reminder that time passes swiftly and inexorably. This phrase is frequently used to warn against wasting time or to lament the rapid passing of life.

It's also the title of an X-files episode (season 4, episode 17) which was what inspired me to look up the phrase. It's a really great episode that is part of the overall mythology of the show and features someone who gets abducted from a plane. The plane crashes and it's discovered that the passengers all have 90 minutes of missing time on their wrist watches.
