CRAVINGS SATISFIED! Sinugbag Baboy "Grilled Pork"
It was just a typical Wednesday afternoon. My boyfriend fetched me from work, sat on the sofa, browsing his social media while I am busy watching Naruto. And then he showed me this picture of grilled pork and fish that really looks so delicious with a lot of spices and chili. As we looked into the picture, it made us crave for it because ‘twas mouthwatering. So, I told him that we will answer our cravings this coming Saturday (because it’s my day off) and eat as much as we want.
Three days passed, it is Saturday! We decided to do grilled pork. We planned the day before that we will go to the market at 9 am. But, we headed to the market at I think past 9 already because it was showering. And we bought the ingredients needed for the recipe and headed straight to their house.
So I bought these:
Pork – 1.5 kgs
Onions
Garlic
Spring Onions
Tomatoes
Calamansi /Lemon
I also bought seafood for a side dish. It is a perfect pair for grilled pork.
Trivia!
Grilled pork and fish are some of the common Filipino food during gatherings, especially on vacation on the beaches. Beach swimming and family outings wouldn’t be complete without these.
(Me: Is this even a trivia? Knowing that other countries do these also. 🤣 Well even if it's not, I just wanted to show you this Filipino-style grilled pork and fish. 😄)

Imagine this with a sauce filled with spices and chili. Heavenly, right? 💛
This is very simple to prepare.
- I combined all the marinating ingredients into a large bowl. In preparing the marinating sauce, I just incorporated the soy sauce, vinegar, salt, pepper, chopped onions, and garlic. Added calamansi juice but you can also use lemon juice as an alternative. You can also add ketchup if you want.
- I then added the meat and marinate it for about an hour. You can make it longer for about 3 hours if you want to have a much more flavorful outcome. But then we arrived from the market about 45 minutes before 12pm and we were already hungry at that time so I marinated it for about 30 minutes only.
- Just enough time that made the meat rest into the sauce, we then settled the meat into a grill. An estimated 10-15 minutes on each side, basted the meat with the remaining marinating sauce to keep the meat juicy and moist.
While waiting for the meat to be cooked, I sorted and washed the seafood side dish. I wondered about the English word for this seafood and only find out that it is “seafood salted grapes”. So I was like, “Aahhh okaaay. Why haven’t I thought about that? To think that it really looks like grapes 😅.”
A few minutes later ..It is ready to be served!
But of course, this craving wouldn’t be complete without hot chili. 🌶
I just picked some from their backyard and put it on the sauce with chopped onions, tomatoes, onion spring, and calamansi juice.
With the grilled pork, chili sauce, seafood salted grapes, and scorched rice, I could say that our cravings were satisfied! 😋
