Mayo (ejercicio poético) (Esp – Eng)

Mayo es la ilusoria primavera
de nuestros predios
y aún la sentimos
en el canto alborotado de los pericos
en los apamates pletóricos de violetas
en esas volutas de las ceibas
que ciegan los ojos de estos días

Seremos en mayo ese tránsito
las interrogantes
   a veces esperanzas
la anhelada serenidad del poniente
y sus recuerdos opalescentes
esa luna lejana y próxima
que llena nuestros deseos

May (A Poetic Exercise)

May is the illusory spring
of our lands,
and we still feel it—
in the boisterous song of the parakeets,
in the apamate trees brimming with violet blooms,
in those swirling wisps of the ceibas
that dazzle the eyes of these days.

In May, we shall be that passage—
the questions—
   at times, hopes—
the longed-for serenity of the twilight
and its opalescent memories—
that moon, both distant and near,
that fills our desires.
