Las máscaras del poder (ejercicio poético) (Esp | Eng)

Para recordar al escritor y activista antiautoritario George Orwell, nacido el 25 de junio de 1903. A él dediqué hace unos años esta microficción.

Enarbolan el bienestar de la humanidad,
su felicidad y su progreso,
a veces el engañoso igualitarismo,
“el poder del pueblo”,
otras veces la purificación de la raza
y la grandeza de la nación…

Máscaras de la opresión germinal
oculta o incubándose.
Allí está el poder descarado,
envuelto en la grandilocuencia
y en los supremos valores,
disfrazando el oprobio
de sus ergástulas, de sus asesinatos
a cuenta gotas o crudamente ejecutados…

Allí está el poder, ese ogro repetido
en la historia ominosa,
en el horror temido
de ayer y hoy.

The masks of power (poetic exercise)

In memory of the writer and anti-authoritarian activist George Orwell, born on June 25, 1903. A few years ago, I dedicated this microfiction to him.

They champion the welfare of humanity,
its happiness and progress,
sometimes deceptive egalitarianism,
“the power of the people,”
other times the purification of the race
and the greatness of the nation...

Masks of germinal oppression
hidden or incubating.
There lies the shameless power,
shrouded in grandiloquence
and supreme values,
disguising the opprobrium
of its dungeons, of its murders
carried out drop by drop or crudely executed...

There is power, that ogre repeated
in ominous history,
in the feared horror
of yesterday and today.
