In the creation of robots there are many lines of research, one of them is to create robots that are more familiar and pleasant to us for human treatment and one of the objectives in this line is that androids, which are the robots that they try to imitate human appearance and behavior, in addition to the fact that these androids may be covered with skin similar to ours, a living skin, that is what the scientists at the University of the West in the United Kingdom are working on.
These researchers have been inspired by the science fiction movie Terminator, there are a lot of movies with friendly and peaceful androids and these people go and are inspired by a murderous android, well the important thing is that they have created a skin with fungi, capable of perceive light and touch, to create the skin a species of fungus called ganoderma sessile was cultivated.

The researchers soaked an 18cm Cyborg model with a substance called Agar to stimulate the growth of the fungus and then submerged the doll in a liquid to cover it with said fungus. After five days the model was covered with an organic skin.

The result is somewhat bizarre, it looks like a mix between Terminator and the Texas massacre, the truth is that it is a little scary now, but we have to keep in mind that this is a first step to create soft, smooth and similar to the human skin, a skin that allows the robot to receive touch stimuli, sensations of light, heat, cold and that can self-repair. To do this, the fungus will also have to be connected to the robot's electronic system.

The researchers go much further, they not only think about androids, they also dream of applying this living skin to entire buildings, the possibilities are
enormous, imagine always maintaining the color of the building's façade without having to paint it or change the color whenever you feel like it, that the house can repair itself from cracks or chips, notify you if it is raining, windy or snowing, regulating the temperature of the house depending Whether it is a hot or cold day, controlling the lights by detecting whether it is day or night, in short, living in a house that is alive.
