A Soviet ship will fall in the next few hours
A probe from the former Soviet Union is going to fall to Earth in the coming days, this probe has been orbiting the Earth for 53 years and estimates predict that it will fall to Earth on May 9 or 10, the possibilities of where it will fall are very uncertain, and it can fall anywhere on the planet due to the uncertainties that arise from the models used and which are around more or less 10 hours, that is a lot for an object in orbit.
The object in question is the Cosmos 482 probe, a ship that took off in 1972 bound for Venus, but failed in its attempt to reach the neighboring planet.
The uncertainty is very great because many variables are involved, including space weather, in addition to the fact that the probe was built to land on one of the most hostile planets in the solar system. Venus is a planet that has enormous atmospheric pressure due to its composition and has temperatures of around 464ºC and experts warn that at least that 500 kg piece has every chance of impacting the surface.
To all this, we must add that at this moment there is a huge sunspot that will heat up the atmosphere a little more as a result it swells and can generate more drag on the Soviet capsule making it fall sooner or the opposite occurs the sun has less activity, the atmosphere shrinks and the capsule will fall later, but until now everything seems to indicate that it will do so between May 9 and 10.
where will it fall? That is not difficult to answer, it is impossible, the capsule when passing near the Earth travels at 8 km per second, imagine if the variation of 1 second in the moment in which it begins to fall creates an uncertainty of a distance of 8 km, a variation of 10 hours creates an uncertainty greater than the circumference of the Earth, we literally will not know where it will fall until it is already falling like a fireball set on fire by the compression of the air in front of it.
It is very possible that the Cosmos 482 probe, despite catching fire on re-entry, will not be destroyed. It is a probe designed to enter an atmosphere rich in carbon dioxide, which is corrosive, much denser and hotter. In other words, Cosmos 482 was designed to cross the atmosphere and land on the surface of Venus, which is not very different from hell. A dive into our soft atmosphere will not even tickle it.

The probe is so robust that even hitting the ground at a terminal speed of 200 km/h it will probably keep its contents relatively intact, perhaps it will break like an egg and something else will break, but it will be in very good condition to be displayed in a museum unless it falls into the sea, due to its orbit it is certain that it will fall somewhere between latitude 52 north and 52 south.
In the image we can see how in this area of the planet most of the surface is ocean, which means that it is much more likely to fall into water than onto land.
I hope that it falls near a very populated place, without hitting anyone, without causing damage, so that there are many people who record the event and it is well documented and I would also like that whoever recovers it puts it on display as the enormous piece of space history that literally fell from the sky, I hope that knowing this you are aware of what is happening with this Soviet space relic.
