I'm Needy

I really love my job!

Seriously, I don't think there could be a better position on planet earth for me to fulfil. I get to drive around Western Canada and talk to people about books and bibles all day.

And then when it's 'down time' on my drives, I usually end up getting to sit in on some pretty powerful sermons.

Yeah, I get paid for this...I pinch myself daily and thank God for His blessings :)

Tonight, after many weeks on the road, I was able to take in a sermon here locally at an event I am at. And the preacher really made me think deeply about somethings, we might take for granted as believers.

I'm paraphrasing his sermon, but hopefully you get the message he laid out tonight.

The message was about the gift of salvation.

And this can be quite the hot button topic for Christians of many different denominations. And while I do tend to believe 'cheap grace' is a major issue inside of the churches, I accept and believe with my heart...That it's a gift.

Nothing and I mean nothing can 'earn' me my salvation. And this was what the pastor was really trying to point out. He used the example of Peter and how many times Peter not only denied Christ, but also seemed to 'fight' with his teachings.

Remember when Peter told Jesus that He couldn't wash his feet? (John 13)

That was beneath Christ, as Peter thought. But Jesus had such a powerful object lesson for not only Peter but for us as well.

Jesus knew, Peter would sin. He knew he would deny Him. But He also knew, that Peter would become a powerhouse for His church.

Jesus knew it all. And said...Peter was clean.

Even when Peter was yet to deny Him, in Jesus' eyes, Peter was clean.

Jesus knew Peter couldn't earned salvation. Jesus knows that we can never earn it either. But here's what Jesus did know and continues to know...

We NEED it.

We are but filthy rags. Without Jesus, there is zero hope to be made right. And it's never our righteousness, it's always His.

We NEED His grace and white robes because we will be doomed with it.

This just blew my mind as the pastor expanded on it.

Needs and wants.

This is something my old 'marketing mind' used to dwell over for decades. How to turn a want into a need, that's the marketing mission every day.

We all 'want' eternity, and when we say yes to Christ, He turns that want into the greatest need for us. How great is our God?

Anyways, things I learned on a Tuesday night :)

I hope it gives you something to be grateful for and look towards.
