Self-discovery: Deriving My Profession From My Passion

Right from when I was young, my parents saw my devotion in making sure things are in place even without being told what to do. Obviously, I was seen as a problem solver. Aside from how they saw me, I saw myself that way too.

Before getting into the university, I made up my mind to study surveying because of the circumstances around me right from when I was small. When I was little, my dad lost a case of landed property in the court because of hiring a quack to make a survey of the plot for him. This scene was kept in my mind till I grew up to make a decision for myself on what I want to study in the higher institution. Aside from family issues, the state I lived in was a no go area because of the poor road networks; and surveying is broad enough to have engineering survey as one of its branches.

The good part was that I loved mathematics or any calculative related subjects. So, it was an added advantage to me in the university. While in the university, we do go for practicals to have experience on how the profession is. Honestly, nothing gives me joy as being at site to practice my childhood dream.

Fast forwarding, I happen to be in my internship in the university and this ignited more passion for my profession. From my hobby of solving puzzles related to numbers, I became a dream chaser of surveying which is a calculation course; then resulting in a passionate learner in this field.

During my internship, we did several projects but this aspect I wish to talk about is the combination of cadastral, engineering and layout survey. The site which was proposed by the government to be worked on was about parcellation of plots in an estate; fortunately, the company I interned happened to win this massive project contract.

During the course of this job, I developed so much passion in the practical aspect more than when the theoretical aspect in the classroom. Living my dream became more real than ever before.

So, to those who didn't know me that much, I am a surveying intern with great skills in the cadastral, engineering, remote sensing, photogrammetric, hydrographic survey et al. My hobby drove me to my passion, from my passion to profession, lol.
