Free Books
Strolling through Neu-Ulm in Germany I came across a special booth on the pavement. It is called Offener Bürcherschrank, Open Bookcase. It serves the community. Everyone can take out a book for free, read it at home or on a park bench nearby. You can keep it, bring it back or refill the booth with other books. Great idea of the local city council.
Do people still read books in times of smartphones and internet? It seems so.
In 2017, there were about 9.25 million people in Germany aged 14 and over, who daily came to pick up a book. They read new books and used books as well. Last year in Germany 9,19 billion Euros were earned with books. Even if this was a bit less than the year before, it shows that people still love books.
Thanks for reading. Have a nice day.
