Hiking to Kafok peak

While reading blogs, I was able to read jane1289@jane1289 post about her hiking/trekking experience and it is her entry on The outdoors and more community contest. So, I thought of joining as I also want to share my experience about the topic.

I would like to thank galenkp@galenkp for initiating this contest where we can share and read different stories about outdoor activities.

I choose this topic to write.

Your hiking/trekking experiences and expeditions (good or bad experiences)

Hiking is one of my desire when I was still young or should I say I still belong to the youth. I really wanted to join hiking and camping activities but sometimes I can't because I can't leave from work. Other reasons is that I am more focused on working that time to earn money as I am supporting my younger brothers in their study.

When I got married and had a son, our youth planned a 3 in 1 activity which is outreach program, a camping and hiking at once. They invited us to join and I really want to go with them. I asked my husband if we could join the youth in this activity and fortunately with the help of other young people he was able to said YES.

We pack, we prepare and travel to the next municipality. Our hiking starts at five o'clock in the afternoon. It is quite challenging because we are still in the road at night. We really need flashlights so we could see the road. I'm sorry I don't have pictures during the hike because it is so dark and I am trying to manage myself because it seems my energy and oxygen is going down. I tried stopping to rest but some youth keep on telling me not to stop, just walk slowly. I followed their advised and make myself to the top after three or four hours, I can't remember exactly what time we arrived at the peak.

This activity happened last December 18-19, 2020. My son is only 3 years old that time. It was the highest peak he have reached in that age. Might be you are wondering how did I carry him to the top? Oh! some of our youth and my husband carry him all through the top.

We had our dinner at the peak, assemble our tents and had time to sleep but unfortunately I wasn't able to sleep there because the weather is too cold.

In the morning, we were able to see the wonders of God's creation. At the top we can see the Mt. Matutum, the hills and mountains, the pineapple fields, the clouds and we were able to witnessed sunrise at the Kafok peak.

We glorify God for His goodness by having a morning devotional before we proceeded to the other activities.

During lunchtime until afternoon we had our community service. We cooked some food for them to enjoy for lunch. Then, we put a lot of pre loved clothes in the center for them to choose and get as many as they can. Men and women as well as the kids enjoyed looking some clothes that fit for them. We also had giving of slippers to children and adults.

Our body felt so exhausted after that activity because of the long hours of hiking but our hearts was filled with so much joy upon seeing the smiles of the indigenous people near around the Kafok peak as they eat the simple food we offer, as they wear those clothes they found from pre-loved clothes and lastly their big smiles because they have their new slippers.

Our mind felt so relax as we had the chance to unwind. Our eyes was full seeing the beautiful creations around. For a while we were able to escape the city with lot of noise and air pollution and visited a place with fresh air and a quite, peaceful surroundings. Indeed it was a good and great experience I had to remember, to cherish and to tell.

A day of hiking, trekking and camping that gives way to a happy soul. A hike for a cause. A hike not just for us to be happy but also to make other people's happy.

Thank you so much for reading.
