Hacker offers to sell data of 1 Billion Chinese Citizens

I always talk about the importance of keeping your private data safe and personally refuse to use exchanges, sites or platforms that require such information.

However if your country is governed by a totalitarian regime, which is becoming an everyday occurance around the world , which seems to be the case more and more with each passing day, then even higher precautions are neccesary and this means only filling in neccesary information on governmental forms, such as your name, date of birth and addresss.

My reason for saying this is because of the recent reports on numerious news sites of a data breach of over 1 Billion Chinese citizens private data that was reported to be hacked from a Shanghai police database.

You may wonder why the police would harvest the data of over 1 Billion citizens in the first place, aren't they only supposed to have access to the data of known and convicted criminals, yes in a democracy that is the case, but totalitarian regimes aren't playing by the same rules and certainly don't abide by the same laws that they expect you and me to follow.

With the current state of affairs around the globe, data has become a very valuable and highly sought after commodity, one that many companies including Big pharma, The insurance industry and even Big E-commerce platforms will pay large sums for.

The world is no longer as safe as it once was and with new technological advances taking place almost daily we each need to weigh the pros and cons of availing of these advances, especially when they each come with a whole new set of problems.

Apparently the hacker that stole the data of 1 Billion Chinese Citizens has offered them for sale for 10 Bitcoins.
