LANTERN FESTIVAL

I've never been to one of these types of festivals even though they're pretty photogenic and they seem to be pretty popular these days.

MY OBSERVATIONS

  • It's pretty surreal when you see hundreds or thousands of these lights in the sky
  • It's a pretty fun thing to photograph I just wish they started when the sky is still a little bit colorful right before pitch black.
  • The lanterns really don't go very far so they're easier to clean up after than i expected.
  • I had always wondered about the fire danger to the dry land. Now that I've been i'm not that concerned about it.
  • However holy crap can it be a bit of chaos there on the field with all the laterns that don't lift off and people aren't paying attention. It's a little bit of a mad house.
  • If you don't like the chaos be on the opposite side of the wind.
  • There's actually decent risk of lighting those blankets on the ground on fire with lanterns that make it 10ft and land and I'm guessing there's some people burning their hands, I'd love to know the stats on that.
  • But yes not very concerned about brush fires anymore, not with how far they go and the fire department that's always there.
  • They've got to employ a good amount of people to do lantern retrieval that night and the next morning.

FRIEND ON STAGE

It was a last minute decision to go... basically my friend was performing and invite me to come. I had no idea it was even going on until a few hours before.
