Someone has to watch the internet...

I had a coworker years ago who would disappear into the internet for days. This was before Facebook existed. We determined it was because Someone has to watch the internet in case something changes or gets updated. Back when the internet was not connected to every phone someone had to watch for interesting updates and let the rest of us know. This person had self-selected to be the watcher. I miss them sometimes.
Nowadays everyone constantly (it seems) watches the internet for changes. The pace is faster too, miss 3 days and you might miss an entire meme.
Social networking is fascinating to lurkers, we don't post much or generate content, we are the watchers and readers and the invisible ones who usually don't want to be noticed or actually interact with strangers. Which makes Steemit... interesting. To watch. To lurk. But posting... that will be terrifying.
